Megan Stowell returned from a one-match absence to factor in the scoring on all three goals as Siena Women's Soccer got back in the win column with a 3-2 victory at Saint Peter's.
Stowell registered four points on a goal and a pair of assists to help Siena (6-6-1, 3-2-1) snap a three-match winless streak and move back above .500 in league action at the midway point of the MAAC slate.
The Saints controlled play throughout, but fell behind early as Saint Peter's (3-8, 0-6) took advantage of a rare opportunity. Cara Therrien headed home a Lucia Mansilla Medina cross in the 11
th minute to stake the Peacocks to a quick advantage.
But Siena quickly settled in and responded with three unanswered scores.
The Saints erased the deficit less than five minutes later when Stowell sent
Cate Flanagan on a run down the left side. Flanagan rainbowed a cross which curved into the far top corner for her first strike of the season.
Siena wasted little time in the second half, with Stowell putting the Saints ahead for good in the 54
th minute. The combination of Stowell and
Catherine Rogers connected once again as the latter crossed to the former for her fifth goal.
Stowell then capped the Siena scoring in the 70
th minute, when her corner kick snuck through the far side to
Lindsey Harrington. The sophomore back finished for her first collegiate score to give the Saints some breathing room.
The tally would prove to be the match-winner, however, as Joana Dias converted a penalty kick in the 74
th minute to narrow the margin.
But the Saints hung on down the stretch to match the program's win total from the past two seasons combined, with still six regular season matches remaining.
Siena held a decided 16-7 shot advantage and a 7-6 margin in corners to secure their fourth victory away from home already this fall, marking the program's most road wins in six years dating back to 2018 (five).
The Saints return home to welcome red-hot Canisius to Hickey Field for a Wednesday showdown at 4 p.m. The Golden Griffins have won eight straight overall, and currently sit atop the MAAC table at a perfect 6-0 in league action.
