LOUDONVILLE, NY - The highly anticipated Murray Cup returns to Schuyler Meadows Golf Club this week when Siena Men's Golf hosts sister school St. Bonaventure on Tuesday, October 8 for the sixth edition of the match. The single 18-hole round between the Saints and Bonnies will tee off at 8:30 a.m.
Entering its fourth outing of the season, the two-time defending MAAC champions has had four top-10 finishes through seven rounds of play, highlighted by a tie for sixth place in the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational this past Sunday and Monday.
Going into Tuesday's Murray Cup, sophomore
Michael McConie shot a season-low 36-hole score of 147 in the recent tournament - shooting an even-par at 72, +1 of his best round thus far at 71. Meanwhile, freshman
KC Nickel put on a show at the Matthews Auto Collegiate, finishing ninth shooting a total of 143 with rounds of 71 and 72, finishing at -1 overall.
On the season thus far, fellow freshman
Connor Kiel has been getting used to collegiate golf fairly easily, having shot a low round of 69 at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial, while senior teammate
Dan Brooks, and freshman
Michael Broeker have shot low rounds of 72, +1 over.
The Murray Cup dates back to the Fall 2017 season. After winning the first three Murray Cup's, the Bonnies have fallen to the Saints in each of the last two. Siena struck for its first-ever win two seasons ago, 294-297, before capturing its second straight win last year, 276-283.
Last season, Siena came two strokes off the team record for low round in the win.
Gavin Crowley enjoyed a round of -2, 69, and was joined by
Austin Giroux (70), and
Dan Brooks (71) in shooting under-par.
Following Tuesday, Siena will conclude fall action at the Lehigh Invitational from Oct. 19-20.
