PHILADELPHIA, PA - Siena Women's Basketball fell to the University of Pennsylvania Quakers, 78-47, at the Palestra on Wednesday evening.
Siena (0-3) was held to under 40 percent shooting as a team (20-53, 37.7%) and out-rebounded by Penn 40-28. Penn (3-0) shot nearly 50 percent from the floor (32-65, 49.2%) with the bulk of its scoring coming in the paint (46), off turnovers (27), and second chance (16).
Anajah Brown had a season high 17 points in her homecoming game to go with five boards, two assists, and a block.
Ahniysha Jackson scored nine on three three-pointers, while
Ana Conde had a career high eight.
Stina Almqvist powered the Quaker charge with a game & career high 27 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field. Reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week Katie Collins notched a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double as well.
Behind six Conde points during the first 10 minutes of play, the Saints held a 17-16 lead entering the second quarter. However, back-to-back Penn three-pointers to open the second quarter put the Saints behind by five with eight minutes to play in the half. Jackson responded to pull back within two, but the Quakers ended the half on a 18-7 run to lead by 13 at the break.
Brown willed the Saints offense early in the second half, but Penn responded each time to lead by 17 after three. The Quakers took complete control in the fourth quarter, hitting 60 percent of shot to Siena's 15.4 to pull away.
Siena returns to action on Sat., Nov 23 when the team travels to Fordham. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. from Rose Hill Gym.
