MADEIRA BEACH, FL – Siena Softball kicked off a stretch of a string of seven games in four days with a doubleheader sweep in its first action at The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Florida Thursday afternoon. The Saints (4-3) took 4-2 and 5-0 wins over in-state rival Le Moyne, representing the team's first meetings in 32 years as the Dolphins continue their transition to Division I.
Siena 4, Le Moyne 2
Both teams played through four scoreless innings to kick off, largely in-part to a solid outing from graduate student pitcher
Nicole Patille. Siena broke things open against the winless Dolphins in the fifth by way of an RBI double from freshman
Chloe Cummings, an RBI single from junior
Madi Silber, and an RBI double from junior
Ashley Giampolo.
Le Moyne countered with a 2 RBI single in the sixth, but redshirt-sophomore
Alissa Eimont used a 1.1 inning save to shut the door and preserve victory. The Saints held a 7-4 hits advantage, with Giampolo registering a multi-knock outing to lead the way. Patille earned the win with five and two-thirds innings in the circle, tossing four strikeouts and allowing only three hits.
Siena 5, Le Moyne 0
Following a swift one hour nine-minute outing to kick things off in Florida, the Green and Gold returned to register their first shutout of the year, beginning with senior
Isabella Pardo scoring on an error in the top of the first. Siena etched one more run in the third before piling three on in the fourth in its most definitive win thus far.
Siena held an 8-3 hits advantage, with Pardo going for a pair and Giampolo collecting two RBI's. Eimont tossed a six-inning gem in the circle with three strikeouts in only two hits allowed, while freshman
Hailey Francois tossed a clean final inning in relief.
The Saints continue weekend action in the Sunshine State with matchups against Bellarmine at 1:30 PM and against Brown at 4 PM.
