The Siena Men's Tennis team was firing on all cylinders in their sweeping victory 7-0 over visiting Holy Cross on Friday evening at Tri-City Fitness.
Oscar Martinez,
Fabio Varella,
Zino Varouhas-Poole and
Maxwell Acri each picked up a pair of victories in both singles and doubles competition as the Saints won all, but two sets in the dual match.
Duarte Melo and
Dylan Breen also earned singles wins from the number five and six positions.
"It was an amazing match for the guys," said Siena men's tennis coach
John Chiaramonte.
"The guys came out with a fast start in doubles and kept it rolling in singles. Credit to Max for fighting from a set and a break down."
Playing from the singles number four position, Acri lost the opening set to senior Declan O'Flynn 6-2 before coming back to win the middle set 6-4 to force a deciding set and eventually completed the comeback with a 10-5 win in the final set.
The Saints improved to 14-7 all-time series versus Holy Cross.
The Crusaders dropped to 1-1 on the season.
Next up, the Saints (2-6) will travel to Fairfield, CT to play at Sacred Heart on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Tennis Club of Trumbull.
