FAIRFIELD, CT – Siena Basketball looks to head into March on a high note when the Saints finish their February slate at Fairfield Sunday at 2 p.m. at Leo D. Mahoney Arena.
Â
Siena (4-22, 3-12) returns to action for the first time in a full week after receiving the conference bye Friday.
Giovanni Emejuru poured in a career-high 23 points and added 14 rebounds the last time out for the Saints in a 73-64 setback vs. Canisius last Sunday at MVP Arena.
Â
The 23-point effort from Emejuru surpassed his previous career-high of 22 set the first time Siena took on Fairfield (17-10, 11-5) in a 93-69 victory by the Stags on Jan. 5 in Albany. Reserve Brycen Goodine scored 40 points on 13-18 shooting (8-13 from three) for Fairfield that night.
Â
The Stags enter play winners of five of their last six, none bigger than a nationally televised 85-81 victory over in-state rival and league frontrunner Quinnipiac Friday night in Hamden. With the win, Fairfield enters play now just a half-game back of the first-place Bobcats. The top-five teams in the MAAC Standings all enter Sunday within a game-and-a-half of first place.
Â
Siena leads the all-time series with Fairfield, 47-34. The Stags have won two straight – both in Albany – on the heels of the Saints winning the previous nine. Siena has won six straight road games in the series as well as six consecutive on the Fairfield campus dating back to 1998.
