ALBANY, NY – Manhattan shot 63% in the second half to overcome a 13-point deficit and rally past Siena Basketball 70-68 at MVP Arena.
Â
Perry Cowan scored 19 points and hit the go-ahead three for Manhattan (6-20, 3-14) with 3:05 remaining. Cowan shot 5-6 from distance for the Jaspers which have won three straight in the Capital Region after having dropped 17 of their previous 18.
Â
Giovanni Emejuru scored a career-high 30 points and added nine rebounds for shorthanded Siena (4-24, 3-14) which was without four of its top-five scorers for a second straight game.
Mason Courtney added 10 points, seven rebounds, and a career-high eight assists for the Saints.
Â
Siena led for nearly 33 minutes and by as many as 13 points in the first half. The Saints shot 52% in the opening stanza while holding Manhattan to just 34% to take a 39-29 lead at the break.
Â
But the shooting percentages flipped in the second half, as Siena cooled to a 35% clip allowing the Jaspers to chip away. Manhattan went ahead 63-62 on the Cowan triple, kickstarting a spurt where they connected on four straight shots down the stretch.
Â
But after DeJuan Clayton missed the back end of a one-and-one, the Saints had one final opportunity. However, Siena missed two looks in the final seconds – including a put-back at the rim – as the Jaspers held on to snap a seven-game losing streak.
Â
Clayton finished with 13 points and five assists in just his second appearance of the season, while Daniel Rouzan and Jaden Winston added 10 points apiece to round out four double figure scorers for Manhattan.
Â
Reserves
Sveinn Birgisson and
Bralyn Smith added eight and seven points, respectively, for the Saints who held a 44-28 rebounding advantage.
