EASTON, MA – Siena Softball's return to play in the Northeast brought music of the same of what it has offered this season. The Saints (12-6) cruised to a 10-1 win over Stonehill (4-11) in five innings Tuesday afternoon at Fr. Gartland Field in Easton, Massachusetts, solidifying their second straight 12-6 start to a campaign for the first time ever.
After taking an extra-inning win over the Skyhawks back on March 8 in Madeira Beach, Florida, the Green and Gold immediately took the lead in their first-ever game at Stonehill, with junior
Madi Silber scoring classmate
McKenzie Swinson on an RBI single in the opening frame. The Skyhawks answered back with an RBI single of their own to begin what was a one-one tie game heading into the fourth.
Siena then found its stride offensively, beginning with a 2 RBI single to left from Swinson that brought in freshman
Carlie Venables and redshirt-senior
Diana Parker. Swinson then came home on an RBI double from senior
Isabella Pardo, while junior
Ashley Giampolo doubled to right center to score Pardo and make it a 5-1 ballgame after four.
Following the crooked inning, the Saints cruised to their second-straight run-rule game of the season by way of the long ball, with both Swinson and Silber sending balls over the fence for the first time in their collegiate careers, with Swinson playing three runs and Silber sending in a pair 10 make it 10-1 and force the game's early end.
The Saints recorded a season-best 12 hits in the win, with Swinson going 2-2 with five RBI's and three runs scored, and Silber going 2-3 with a trio of runs batted in. Redshirt sophomore
Alissa Eimont (7-2) struck out two on just two hits, while graduate student
Nicole Patille finished the game with a clean frame.
Siena will continue midweek action with a doubleheader at Sacred Heart on Thursday, March 21 at 2 PM in Fairfield, CT.
