Saints Secure Statement First Win of Jurczynski Era

Siena Upends Reigning Patriot League Champion Army West Point in Midweek Action

Austin Rachiele raked a pair of three-run homers as Siena Baseball run-ruled reigning Patriot League Champion Army West Point 17-7 in seven innings down in Orange County for an emphatic first win of the Alex Jurczynski Era.

Rachiele led the offensive onslaught with three total hits and four runs scored to go along with his six RBI for Siena (1-16) which amassed a season-high in scoring. Tyler Figueroa added a pair of RBI doubles for the Saints who made the most of their eight hits, while working a season-high 16 walks in the victory.

The Saints raced out to a 6-2 lead through two innings, highlighted by a three-run first inning home run by Rachiele to set the tone.

Army West Point (9-11) scored in each of the first three innings and claimed their first and only lead at 7-6 following a five-run third, highlighted by a bases-clearing three-run double from Ethan Ellis.

But Noah Rodriguez settled things down on the mound, allowing the Siena bats a chance to rally. Rodriguez closed out the victory with 4.1 brilliant scoreless innings of relief work, allowing just two hits while striking out a pair.

The Saints reclaimed the lead for good, scratching across a pair of runs in the fourth, before breaking things wide-open in the sixth. Siena batted around, sending 12 men to the plate while amassing eight runs in the frame to claim a commanding 16-7 advantage, punctuated by a second three-run blast off the bat of Rachiele.

The Saints will look to build upon their first win of the season when they open a three-game weekend series at Davidson with doubleheader action beginning Saturday at noon just outside Charlotte, North Carolina.
