WEST POINT, NY – Competing in its second midweek non-conference series in as many days, Siena Softball (14-8) finished strong in a 10-2 win at Army West Point in West Point, New York. The day proved to be abbreviated, with rain shortening a scheduled doubleheader to a single affair.
Both teams got on the board early, with sophomore
Emma Petersen paving the way for a monster outing with an RBI single to score junior
McKenzie Swinson in the first inning, and Army returning the favor with a run on an RBI groundout. The Black Knights took the lead in the second with a sacrifice bunt, and added insurance with an RBI double in the fifth.
Led defensively by a solid four-strikeout outing from redshirt-sophomore
Alissa Eimont, the Saints turned things around in a big way in the sixth, with Petersen launching a three-run home run to right field to give the visitors a 4-3 lead. Swinson added an RBI infield single, while freshman
Gracie Goewey came home on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded, junior
Ashley Giampolo doubled to center to send in a pair, and Petersen plated two more runs to cap a six RBI day with an RBI single.
Siena held a 10-7 hits advantage behind a three-knock day from Petersen, while Eimont improved to 8-3 on the season and junior
Kaycie Kennedy struck out a pair in two relief innings.
The Saints will kick off conference play with a three-game series at Mount St. Mary's March 29-30 in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
