Siena Men's Tennis gave forth a valiant effort, but fell 4-3 to MAAC Preseason Favorite Fairfield on Friday at Tri-City Fitness in Latham.
Siena (3-11, 0-2 MAAC) gave the Stags (8-8, 2-0 MAAC) all they could handle, earning wins from
Oscar Martinez,
Maxwell Acri and
Andrea Moro at the singles No. 1, 4 and 5 positions.
But, the Saints struggled in doubles play, dropping all three matches for the match and dropped a close three-setter from the No. 6 court.
"It came down to the third set on court six," said Siena men's tennis coach
John Chiaramonte.
"This was an incredible match and atmosphere. I am so proud of this team to push the preseason number one to the brink. Oscar had another great win. Credit to Max for toughing out a three-setter."
Fairfield improved to 8-8 overall and 2-0 in the MAAC.
The Saints travel to play at Quinnipiac on Saturday at 2 p.m.
