Women’s Tennis Claims Five All-MAAC awards

Two named to All-MAAC First Team; three named to All-MAAC Second Team

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Tennis had a haul of five All-MAAC awards for their season performances on the court with junior Laia Giralt, seniors Alexa Wilson and Emma Boggiali all earning votes for two selections and freshman Zaara Omar being named to one team.

It's the most All-MAAC selections that the Siena Women's Tennis has had in a season since the 2016-2017 campaign when it took home nine awards.

The program has had at least two All-MAAC selections in nine consecutive seasons dating back to the 2014-2015 season.

Giralt had another banner year with a record of 14-8 overall including 5-1 in the MAAC from the singles #2 position to be named to the All-MAAC First Team for that slot in the lineup.

It was her first All-MAAC Team singles selection.

Wilson was named to the All-MAAC Second Team at the singles #1 spot, also her first such honor in singles competition after picking up 10 victories including a 4-2 record in MAAC play.

Giralt and Wilson teamed together most of the season to compile an overall record of 9-2 as playing partners including a 5-0 record inside conference play.

For their efforts, the duo was unanimously named to the All-MAAC First Team from the doubles #1 position.

It marks Giralt's third time that she's earned All-MAAC doubles recognition, also earning prior First Team and Second Team recognition.

For Wilson, it's the United Kingdom native's second nod for doubles honors.

Boggiali was named to the All-MAAC Second Team for the singles #4 position for the second time in her playing career at Siena.

The Rome, Italy native last earned All-MAAC singles recognition in her freshman season at the #5 spot.  Boggiali was 10-8 overall and 4-1 in MAAC play.

Boggiali and Omar partnered for a 4-1 mark in MAAC play to be selected for the #3 doubles Second Team.

Boggiali increased her All-MAAC doubles team mark to three overall including two now on Second Team and one on First Team.

Next up, the Saints will travel to West Windsor, New Jersey to compete in the 2024 MAAC Tennis Championships at the Mercer County Tennis Park this Saturday at 10 a.m. against the top seed Fairfield.

Additionally, the conference office announced that a total of 41 student-athletes were named to the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women's Tennis All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Mount St. Mary's University boasted a MAAC-leading eight honorees on the All-Academic Team. Fairfield University and Siena College followed with seven selections apiece, while Niagara University and Rider University each added six members.

Closing out the team were Marist College with four student-athletes and Quinnipiac University with three.
