Colin McVeigh tossed eight strong shutout innings to pitch three-time defending MAAC Regular Season Champion Fairfield to a three-game sweep of Siena Baseball with an 8-0 final in Connecticut.
McVeigh allowed just three hits and struck out 12 without walking a batter as Fairfield (23-20, 13-2) kept pace with Niagara atop the MAAC Standings.
The Stags blew open a 2-0 pitcher's duel with a five-run seventh despite the benefit of just two hits in the frame. Zach Selinger delivered the big blow with a three-run homer to cap the inning.
Arnad Mulamekic was saddled with the tough-luck loss for Siena (8-32, 4-11), despite another solid performance. The reigning MAAC Pitcher of the Week allowed just two runs through six innings while adding seven strikeouts.
The Saints managed just five baserunners offensively on four singles and a double, with five different batters accounting for a hit apiece.
Siena returns to Connors Park next weekend to open a three-game series vs. Manhattan Friday at 3 p.m.
