LOUDONVILLE, NY – Despite early challenges of playing at home this season, Siena Softball completed an eight-game home stand at 5-3 to finish above .500 at home for the 12
th straight eligible year, capped with a weekend sweep over a MAAC opponent. The Saints (27-19, 10-10) completed a weekend series with an 8-3 win over Saint Peter's (15-32, 5-16) at Siena Softball Field on Sunday.
After honoring its four graduating members, the Saints worked through an early lead by breaking away in the middle innings. Saint Peter's plated a pair of runs in the top of the first by way of a two-run double to left field, but the home team answered with a monster play from senior
Mikala Fletcher, who swung an RBI triple deep to right field and then came home on the throw. Junior
Ashley Giampolo further extended the lead with an RBI single later in the inning to score redshirt-senior
Diana Parker.
Siena then turned in a big frame in the bottom of the third to go up six, with sophomore
Emma Petersen doubling to right center to score fifth year
Jocelyn Ulrich, Fletcher scoring Petersen on a sacrifice fly, junior
Madi Silber coming in on a bases-loaded walk, and Parking scoring on an RBI single from senior
Isabella Pardo. Saint Peter's answered back with a solo home run to left field in the sixth, but could not come any closer.
The home team held an 11-8 hits advantage thanks to its early offensive outburst, with Pardo, Ulrich, Petersen, and Giampolo all finishing with multiple hits. Redshirt-sophomore
Alissa Eimont (15-8) struck out five in a six-inning win in the circle, while graduate student
Nicole Patille fanned one in her final home inning.
Siena will conclude the 2024 regular season at Manhattan May 4-5, with hopes of qualifying for the 2024 MAAC Tournament the following week.
