It came down to the final match, but Siena Men's Tennis took a 4-3 defeat in a hard-fought match on the road against Marist at the Tennis Pavilion on Monday afternoon.
Siena (3-13, 0-4 MAAC) held a 3-2 advantage after a strong showing in doubles, taking the point by winning two of three matches, as well as singles victories from No. 1 player
Oscar Martinez and No. 4
Maxwell Acri.
Martinez and Acri won both their doubles and singles match on the day.
However, the Saints were nosed out in close defeats at the No. 5 and No. 3 singles spots to conclude play.
"It was another hard-fought match for the men coming down to the final match to decide the winner," said Siena men's tennis coach
John Chiaramonte.
"Great wins for Max and Oscar in singles. I was happy to see us win the doubles point."
Marist improved to 6-12 overall and 2-1 in MAAC play.
Next up, the Saints return home to take on Rider (4-16, 1-2 MAAC) this Friday at noon in conference play.
