In a match that was delayed two hours past initial kick off due to weather, Siena Men's Soccer suffered its first loss of the 2024 season to the Lafayette Leopards, 1-0, in Easton, PA on Wednesday evening.
The lone tally of the contest came in the 70th minute when a Lafayette free kick led to a redirect goal by Cole Duschang off the initial header attempt by Nicholas Liebich. That was the second of two shots on goal by the Leopards on the night.
Siena held a 7-6 edge in shots with three coming from
Mario Navarro Perez. The teams were even in looks on goal, 3-3.
Navarro Perez had an opportunity to give the Saints a lead early in the 62nd minute on a penalty kick but was denied by the left foot of Lafayette goalkeeper Griffin Huff.
Dren Dobruna had the team's other look on target, which came in the first half.
Bennet Glinder made two saves for the Saints in the losing effort while his counterpart Huff stopped all three.
Siena (0-1-1) will remain on the road this Sunday, September 1, to take on Northeastern University. Match time from Brookline, MA is set for noon.
