St. Thomas Stuns Saints in Final Seconds

Tommies Net Winning Tally With Just 36.9 Ticks Left

Abby Daly leveled Siena Women's Soccer in the 87th minute, but Lexi Huber netted the match-winner with just 36.9 seconds remaining as St. Thomas (MN) stunned the Saints 2-1 in their home-opener at Hickey Field.

McKenna Lehman staked St. Thomas (2-2-1) to the lead in the 28th minute, volleying home the rebound off a long free kick.

Siena (2-3) feverishly hunted for the tying tally in the second half, creating 11 shots and eight corner kicks in the stanza. Freshman Catherine Rogers twice earned the Saints penalty kicks and, after Siena failed to convert on the first attempt in the 77th minute, Daly broke through to even the match with just 3:46 remaining.

But the Tommies had the last word, as Mariah Nguyen won a high header right to the foot of a cutting Huber who finished the winning score in the waning moments.

The Saints held a 16-10 advantage in shots and a 10-7 margin in corners. Cate Burns made three saves for Siena.

Olivia Rowe registered four of her five saves during a busy second half in goal for St. Thomas, which swept its weekend East Coast trip to New York against MAAC schools. The Tommies previously defeated Marist 1-0 on Thursday night in Poughkeepsie.

Siena continues its season-long four-match homestand Wednesday when they host Vermont at 4 p.m.
