Volleyball Falls Short to Stags

Deacy ties career-best with 14 kills

Fairfield defeated Siena in straight sets at Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Saturday, with set scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-20.

Siena drops its overall record of 8-12 and a conference record of 4-3 in the MAAC.

Fairfield stands at 13-4 overall and remains undefeated in the MAAC with a record of 7-0.

Mary Claire Deacy led the offensive effort for the Saints with 14 kills, achieving a hitting percentage of .452.

Notably, she matched her career high in kills for a single match. 

Alandra Hasbrouck facilitated the attack with 12 assists while also adding eight digs on defense.

Autumn Willmott was effective in the back row, collecting 10 digs and serving two aces.

First Set 
- Fairfield initiated momentum with an early service ace by Abby Jandro, establishing a 2-0 lead. 

- Jandro facilitated a Fairfield run with assists to Katelyn Cook and Maya Walker, contributing to a 5-1 advantage. 

- Siena responded with service aces from Treasure and Deacy, narrowing the score to 10-17. 

- Allie Elliott's kill, set up by Jandro, sealed the set for the Stags at 25-17. 

Second Set 
- Fairfield began with a kill from Mamie Krubally, setting the tone with an early lead. 

- Siena's Gabrielle Wire and Berra Tok contributed early kills, briefly keeping the teams even at 3-3. 

- A service ace by Zofia Sykut extended Fairfield's lead, capitalizing on a series of Siena attack errors. 

- Despite a late push with kills from Deacy and Elizabeth Phillips, the Saints fell short as Fairfield closed the set with a kill by Delaney Moon.

Third Set 
- Siena took an early 2-0 lead with a kill from Deacy and an attack error by the Stags. 

- Fairfield responded with a strong sequence, leveling the score at 3-3 with kills from Jandro and Cook. 

- Deacy's consistent performance kept the Saints in contention, tying the score at 10-10 with her third kill of the set. 

- The Stags closed the set 25-20, aided by two consecutive service aces from Cook, securing a decisive win.

Fairfield's effective attack was highlighted by 41 kills and a .282 hitting percentage to secure the victory.

Looking ahead, Siena is set to face Holy Cross on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

The match will take place at 6 p.m. in Worcester, MA, at the Coach George Blaney '61 Gymnasium, where the Saints will compete as the visiting team.
