Home Sweet Home

Saints Power Past Peacocks to Get Back in Win Column

LOUDONVILLE, NY – There's no place like home. Siena Women's Soccer made the most of its first home match in two weeks, securing another Hickey Field triumph with a much needed 3-0 victory over Saint Peter's Wednesday afternoon.

Three different players scored and six registered points for Siena (6-4-6, 3-3-3), which is now unbeaten in eight of nine home matches (5-1-3) this season, and 14 of their last 16 (9-2-5) contests on Hickey Field dating back to last fall.

Briana Neary returned from a two-match absence to give the offense a much-needed boost, opening the scoring less than seven minutes in to snap a 372:14 scoreless streak, dating back to a 3-1 win over Merrimack Sept. 24 on Hickey Field. Abby Daly added a first half marker for the Saints who ended a four-match winless streak (0-2-2) going back to that win over the Warriors.

Maya Costa finished an insurance tally in the 71st minute for Siena which improved to an impressive 28-7-1 all-time vs. Saint Peter's (4-8-3, 1-7-1).

The Saints held a 19-6 advantage in shots, while the Peacocks harbored a 7-5 margin in corners. Cate Flanagan dished out a pair of assists, while Daly, Micaiah Croce, and Catherine Rogers each added helpers.

Cate Burns and the back line secured their third clean sheet in four matches, as Burns needed only to make one save to earn her conference-leading seventh shutout for a defensive unit which ranks second in the MAAC with a stellar 0.81 goals against average.

Bergljot Kristinsdottir made seven saves for Saint Peter's which is now winless in eight straight (0-7-1) following a promising start to their season.

Siena will look to keep it going when they make the long trek down to Maryland to square off with Mount St. Mary's Saturday at noon.
