In their 300th all-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season match, Siena Women's Soccer (7-4-6, 4-3-3) secured a commanding 3-0 victory against Mount St. Mary's (3-12-1, 1-9-1) at Waldron Family Stadium in Emmitsburg, MD, marking Siena's first ever win in Emmitsburg.
Cate Burns recorded a shutout with two saves over 90 minutes, securing her conference-leading eighth shutout and fourth in the past five matches.
Briana Neary scored one goal and added an assist, including netting the game-winning goal, tying the team lead with her fifth goal of the season and her second in as many matches.
Catherine Rogers contributed with one goal and an assist, while also leading the team in shots with five, four of which were on target, also netting her fifth goal of the season to tie Neary for the team lead.
Maya Costa scored with her only shot on goal, adding further to the team's offensive output.
The match's first half commenced with Siena applying early pressure, gaining a corner kick at 2:11 and following it with two shots from
Sarah Harnett and
Lily Farrell. Rogers' attempt in the 7th minute was stopped by Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper, Abigail Makela. Siena's persistence paid off in the 9th minute when Neary, assisted by Rogers, scored, putting Siena ahead 1-0.
Siena maintained offensive momentum with multiple attempts, including a blocked shot by
Abby Daly and another save against
Anna Swyers' shot. Despite several offside calls against Siena, the team continued to press. The Mountaineers' efforts to equalize were thwarted by Burns' save on Taylor Simmons' shot in the 15th minute.
As the half progressed, Siena's defense remained strong, with Burns making pivotal saves. Although the Mountaineers had opportunities, they failed to convert, leaving the score 1-0 in favor of Siena at the end of the first half.
Siena capitalized on their offensive momentum in the second half. Rogers found the back of the net in the 71st minute, assisted by Neary, extending their lead to two goals. The Mountaineers struggled to convert their chances, as Burns made a key save to keep the home team scoreless.
Siena continued to press forward, and Costa scored in the 81st minute, with assists from
Iona Snape and
Lindsey Harrington. Despite late attempts by the Mountaineers, Siena held firm defensively, concluding the match with a 3-0 victory and a season high of 20 shots.
Looking ahead, Siena will host Rider on Saturday, Oct. 25. The match is set for 1 p.m. at Hickey Field.
