Women’s Soccer Senior Class Leaves Imprints on Crucial Senior Day Victory

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The postseason hopes for Siena Women's Soccer remain alive and well. The Saints secured their third consecutive 3-0 victory, defeating Rider on Senior Day at Hickey Field to secure three more crucial points in their quest for a MAAC Tournament berth.

Three different players scored for surging Siena (8-4-6, 5-3-3) which has its second separate three-match win streak this season at the most critical time of the year. With the victory, the Saints increased their league point total to 18, just one point shy of Marist (playing later tonight), Canisius, and Manhattan which currently hold down the final three postseason spots with 19 points each.

Siena will need points and some help on the final day of the regular season Wednesday to return to postseason play, but put themselves firmly in the conversation with another complete performance Saturday.

The Saints nine-member Senior Class – tied for the largest in program history (Class of 2022, honored Fall 2021) – left its imprints on their final regular season home match. A trio of seniors combined on the opening score, with Cate Flanagan serving Iona Snape in the box, who redirected to Micaiah Croce who finished in the 18th minute. The assist was the ninth of the season for Flanagan, equaling the program record held by both Michele Tremblay (2017) and Val Kujan (1993).

Siena dominated second half play and added a pair of insurance tallies. Catherine Rogers rocketed home her team-leading sixth goal of the season in 49th minute, and then fed Snape who dished out her second assist of the afternoon on a cross headed in by Abby Daly in the 63rd minute.

The Saints held a 15-6 advantage in shots and a 3-1 margin in corners. The Siena backline held Rider (2-8-7, 0-6-5) to just one total shot on goal for the afternoon, and one total shot attempt in the second half as part of another dominant defensive performance.

Cate Burns and senior Maddie Finn combined to secure a program-record tying fourth straight clean sheet while running the team shutout streak to 420:47.

Ashley Moore made three saves for the Broncs who were shutout for the eighth time during a 10-match winless streak (0-5-5).

The Saints finish their regular season home slate an impressive 6-1-3, and now are unbeaten in 15 of their last 17 matches on Hickey Field dating back to last fall (10-2-5).

The Siena season all comes down now to the decisive regular season finale at Iona Wednesday at 2 p.m.
