Siena Men's Soccer fell 1-0 to the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday at the Quinnipiac Soccer/Lacrosse Turf Complex in Hamden, CT, putting an end to Siena's program record unbeaten streak at eight straight matches.
Siena drops to 5-5-4 overall and 4-1-3 in conference play, while the Bobcats improve to 5-8-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Bennet Glinder played the full 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves while facing eight shots.
Martin Piedeleu led the team with four shots, although none were on target.
Campbell Stalker took two shots, with both being on goal.
Lucas Almeida managed one shot, which was also on target.
The first half began with Siena applying consistent offensive pressure, creating multiple scoring opportunities early in the match. Stalker, Almeida, and
Mark Cajamarca each had shots on goal, but the Bobcats' goalkeeper, Matthew Pisani, made crucial saves to keep the score level.
Defensively, Glinder made a key save against Sivert Ryssdalsnes, preventing the Bobcats from gaining an early advantage. Despite Siena's aggressive play and several corner kicks, they were unable to capitalize on their chances. The half closed with both teams locked in a defensive battle, entering halftime scoreless.
The second half began with the Bobcats taking an early advantage through a goal by Alex Miller, assisted by Francisco Ferreira in the 52nd minute. Siena responded by increasing their offensive pressure, earning corner kicks and creating opportunities on goal. Stalker and
Mario Navarro Perez both forced saves from Pisani, while
Eric Svensson and Piedeleu contributed shots that narrowly missed the target.
Despite Siena's multiple attempts to equalize, the team was unable to find the back of the net. The half concluded with a continued effort from Siena to press forward, but Quinnipiac maintained their single-goal lead to secure a 1-0 victory.
Looking ahead, Siena will host Marist at Hickey Field on Oct. 29. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
