Saints Put Forth Competitive Match with MAAC Front Runner Fairfield

Five Saints honored in pre-match Senior Day Tribute

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Siena (11-16, 6-7 MAAC) brought forth a competitive effort but ultimately fell to Fairfield (18-5, 12-1 MAAC) in a four-set match at UHY Center on Senior Night, with the scores of 25-22, 22-25, 19-25, 15-25.

Siena holds an 11-16 overall record and 6-7 mark in the MAAC. Fairfield stands at 18-5 overall and 12-1 in the MAAC.

Doga Diraz led the Saints with 16 kills, achieving a .452 hitting percentage.

Gabrielle Wire recorded 13 kills while Alara Doganyuz facilitated the attack with 21 assists and added 14 digs.

Siena and Fairfield opened their match with an evenly contested first set, featuring frequent ties and lead changes.

Mary Claire Deacy and Wire were pivotal for Siena, each contributing multiple kills, with Wire securing the final point of the set.

Fairfield's Emma Bortolotti and Allie Elliott responded with strong play, consistently finding the court with their attacks.

Despite Fairfield's efforts, Siena managed to capitalize on key attack errors from their opponents, ultimately closing the set with a 25-22 victory.

Fairfield claimed the second set with a 25-22 victory over the Saints, maintaining a slight edge throughout.

Wire and Diraz provided vital points for Siena, but Fairfield consistently countered with key plays, including multiple kills from Mamie Krubally and Elliott.

An ace from Elizabeth Phillips initially put Siena on the board, but Fairfield's effective blocking and attacking, particularly from Bortolotti and Katelyn Cook, propelled them ahead.

Ultimately, Elliott's decisive kill, assisted by Zofia Sykut, concluded the set in favor of Fairfield.

Fairfield secured a 25-19 victory in the third set, building momentum through consistent scoring and defensive plays.

Cook opened with a kill from Elliott, helping Fairfield gain an early lead. Siena responded with a kill by Deacy, but Fairfield's defensive efforts, including a block by Maya Walker, kept the score close.

Bortolotti and Cook contributed crucial points, with Bortolotti securing three kills during the set.

Despite the Saints' attempts to narrow the gap, including consecutive aces by Alandra Hasbrouck, Fairfield maintained control and concluded the set with a kill by Cook.

Fairfield captured the fourth set against the Saints, closing with a 25-15 victory. Fairfield established early momentum with a 3-0 start, aided by Walker's kill.

Midway through, Fairfield extended their lead to 14-6 with notable contributions from Harlan Wyche and Krubally, each earning kills.

Though Siena attempted to counter with strong performances from Diraz and Ella Treasure, Fairfield maintained control and sealed the set with consecutive kills by Elliott and Krubally, assisted by Abby Jandro.

Prior to the match, seniors Alandra Hasbrouck and Amelia Robertson as well as graduate students Berra Tok and Elizabeth Phillips and student manager Sarah Quinn were honored in a Senior Day Tribute.

Looking ahead, Siena will face Sacred Heart on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the UHY Center for the regular season home finale.
