Saints Fall at Army West Point

Siena outscored 16-9 in final frame

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Army West Point defeated Siena, 67-52, at Christl Arena, capitalizing on 22 made free throws to maintain their perfect record.

Siena dropped to 0-3 overall while Army West Point improved to 3-0.

Francesca Schiro scored 12 points and tallied three steals, Genevive Wedemeyer led the team with 13 points, adding two assists and two steals. Kaiya Rain Tucker contributed six rebounds and matched Schiro with three steals. Nicole Melious added eight points and collected four rebounds.

Siena opened the game with determination, but faced an early deficit as Army West Point established a quick 5–0 lead. Melious put the Saints on the board with a layup at 8:37 to cut the gap. Jamariah Turner added a critical 3-pointer at 4:55 with an assist from Wedemeyer, narrowing the score further to 10–5. The Saints trailed 23–12 at the end of the first quarter, with Army West Point maintaining control.

Siena made a significant push in the second quarter, narrowing the deficit with consistent scoring in the paint. Tucker's layup at 9:43 and Turner's layup at 4:37 were critical in maintaining offensive momentum. Despite Army West Point's efforts, the Saints capitalized on free throw opportunities, with Schiro converting a three-point play at 0:32 and Valencia Fontenelle-Posson adding two free throws at 0:11. The quarter concluded with Siena trailing 37–28, after an Army West Point buzzer-beater 3-pointer.

Siena made a strong push in the third quarter, narrowing the gap with a series of effective plays in the paint. Schiro's steal and fast-break layup at 7:47 contributed to a 12-point effort inside, while Wedemeyer added crucial baskets, including a layup at 1:03 that kept Siena within striking distance. Despite a resilient effort, Army West Point maintained a slight edge through consistent free-throw shooting. The quarter concluded with Siena outscoring Army West Point 15–14, bringing the score to 51–43 in favor of the Black Knights as the period ended.

In the fourth quarter, Siena struggled to find offensive rhythm but managed to create some momentum with Schiro's layup at 7:11, assisted by Caydence Hadley. Despite this effort, the Saints' scoring was limited as Army West Point maintained control with effective free-throw shooting and a timely 3-pointer. Siena's defensive efforts included several key steals, but they were unable to convert these turnovers into significant scoring runs. The game concluded with Army West Point prevailing, 67–52.

In their next game, the Saints will face Dartmouth at the UHY Center on Sunday at 2 p.m.
