Deacy notches career best 20 kills in five-set thriller

Siena Volleyball has reversed their fortunes in five-set matches, winning consecutive five-set thrillers over Sacred Heart last Saturday and again on Friday night over Manhattan at Draddy Gymnasium by the scores of 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-27, 17-15.

Siena upped their overall record to 13-16 and moved over the .500 mark in conference play with an 8-7 record. Manhattan dropped to 3-22 overall and 1-14 in the MAAC.

The Saints' efficient second set, highlighted by a .452 hitting percentage, was pivotal in their victory.

Doga Diraz led the squad with 22 kills and added three total blocks, Mary Claire Deacy contributed a career-high 20 kills and three blocks.

Alara Doganyuz facilitated the offense with a team-high 31 assists.

Natalia Clifford anchored the defense, recording 18 digs, tying a career best, and securing two aces.

Siena opened the first set with resilience, narrowing an early deficit with key plays from Deacy and Elizabeth Phillips. Deacy's sharp kills, assisted by Alandra Hasbrouck, kept the Saints competitive, reducing the gap to 3-2.

A series of service errors by the Jaspers and successful kills by Diraz helped Siena to equalize at 15-15.

However, Manhattan regained momentum, led by Fiona VanDyke and Katie Powers, pushing ahead to a 25-21 victory in the set.

Despite a late surge, including a kill by Ella Treasure, the Saints concluded the first set trailing by four points.

In the second set, Siena capitalized on a series of errors by Manhattan, pulling ahead with strong performances from Deacy and Gabrielle Wire.

A pivotal moment came when Clifford delivered consecutive aces, turning the momentum in Siena's favor.

Manhattan attempted to close the gap with a brief rally, but Diraz secured the decisive final point. The Saints ended the set with a 25-20 advantage.

Siena seized momentum early in the third set, capitalizing on a series of Jaspers errors to establish a lead.

Wire and Berra Tok contributed key kills, while defensive efforts, including a block by Deacy, helped Siena maintain their advantage.

As the set progressed, the Saints extended their lead through effective serves and attacks, including an ace by Autumn Willmott and multiple kills by Diraz.

Despite Manhattan's attempts to close the gap with a late rally, Siena secured the set with a decisive 25-21 victory.

In a tightly contested fourth set, Siena initially took the lead with an early kill by Phillips, assisted by Hasbrouck, making the score 1-0.

The Jaspers responded with a series of points, pulling ahead 3-1, but the Saints narrowed the gap with a kill by Deacy.

Siena consistently challenged Manhattan, tying the score at 14-14 with a block by Diraz.

An ace by Phillips later put Siena ahead 20-19. However, the set remained fiercely competitive, with both teams exchanging leads.

Siena fought back to tie the score 25-25, but was unable to secure the win, falling 27-25 in the set.

In a tightly contested fifth set, Siena secured a pivotal momentum shift with Deacy's kill, assisted by Hasbrouck, to start the set.

The Saints maintained a narrow lead throughout, with critical plays from Diraz and Clifford, who each contributed key kills.

Manhattan managed to keep the set close, tying the score several times, but Siena's consistent offense proved decisive.
