Defending ECAC Winter Championships winners Siena Swimming & Diving took part in the first day of the 2025 ECAC Winter Championships in East Meadow, NY, on Friday. The Saints competed in the 50 and 500 frees, the 200 IM, the 200 free relay, the 400 medley relay, and 1m diving in their quest to repeat as champions.
Following the first day, Siena is fourth with 364 points. Stony Brook leads the pack with 484.5 points.
Clara Samko edged out her previous 50 free top 10 time in the preliminaries, finishing seventh in 24.03 to remain fifth on the list and advance to the "A" final. Additionally,
Mea Amedio finished prelims 16th in 24.61 to qualify for the "B" final, while
Camryn Raines and
Gabrielle Rentosa advanced to the "C" final after tying for 21st in 24.80. Samko improved up on her time in the finals, finishing fifth overall while checking in a No. 4 on the top ten list with a time of 23.86. Amedio took 16th (24.52), Raines 23rd (24.85), and Rentosa 24th (24.98).
GayLynn Kirn,
Skylar Ricard, and
Natalie Blume all moved on to the 500 free finals. Kirn qualified for the "A" final after a 5:12.04 time in prelims, Ricard the the "B" final following a 5:17.96 prelim time—nearly 15 seconds faster than her seed time—and Blume the the "C" final with a 5:21.36 mark. Kirn went on to take eighth (5:11.64), Ricard 10th (5:15.42), and Blume 18th (5:18.16).
In the 200 IM preliminary,
Abby Clayton (2:12.09),
Carsyn Ide (2:12.38), and
Emme Starzman all made it to the "B" final. With that,
Julia Mihok (2:14.73),
Hope Ivanovich (2:17.10), and
Alice Scalmani (2:17.47) all qualified for the "C" final. The six of them finished between 11th and 22nd, with Clayton being the top-finsher of the group in 11th with a time of 2:11.77.
In the 1m diving prelims,
Claire Donlon scored 208.75,
Sydney Murray 150.40, and
Bette Sherr-Garcia 137.85.
Siena had a fifth-place showing in the 200 free relay as the team of Amedio, Rentosa, Samko, and Raines clocked in at 1:37.09. The Saints also topped out at seventh in the 400 medley relay with the tandem of Rentosa, Samko, Kirn, and
Julia Filiault (3:56.78).
The Saints open the second day of the ECAC Winter Championships Saturday with preliminaries at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Siena will take part in the 200 medley relay, 800 free relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and 3M dive.
