Siena Swimming & Diving earned its third consecutive top-three finish at the ECAC Winter Championships, finishing third overall out of 12 regional teams following Sunday's finals in East Meadow, NY.
The Saints secured 1,159.5 points over three days of competition to secure third place. Siena finished behind only the champions Stony Brook (1,752) and Iona (1,570.5).
Clara Samko posted a top ten performance time in the 100 free prelims, clocking in at 52.79 to finish 11th and go to the "B" final. Additionally,
Camryn Raines (17th - 53.57) and
GayLynn Kirn (53.75) qualified for the "C" final. Samko took 11th in the finals (52.86),
Mea Amedio finished 17th (53.40), Kirn 18th (53.49), and Raines 19th (53.60).
Both Saints who took part in the 200 fly prelims qualified for finals, with
Skylar Ricard doing so with a top ten performance time. The freshman finished 5th to go to the "A' final with a time of 2:10.30, while
Hope Ivanovich made the "B" final with 10th place showing in 2:13.16. Ricard enjoyed a seventh-place finish in the finals while improving her top ten time to 2:09.70 for eighth on the list. Ivanovich took ninth with a time of 2:11.94.
Julia Mihok reserved a spot in the 200 breast "A" final with a seventh-place showing in the prelims (2:27.83).
Julia Filiault (10th - 2:29.32) and
Emme Starzman (2:32.00) went to the "B" final, while
Alice Scalmani (17th - 2:33.86) and
Kayla Lombardo (20th - 2:34.65) qualified for the "C" final. Mihok clocked a top ten time in the finals, with her mark of 2:25.79 good enough for 10th on the list and seventh in the race. Filiault ended up in 10th (2:27.51), Starzman 16th (2:32.09), Lombardo 19th (2:33.22), and Scalmani 20th (2:35.36).
Three Saints advanced to the "B" final in the 200 back, with
Carsyn Ide finishing 12th in prelims (2:12.37),
Mary Ellen Stratman 15th (2:13.83), and
Abby Clayton 16th (2:15.78). Ide took 11th in the finals (2:10.67), Stratman 12th (2:11.12), and Clayton 14th (2:12.05).
Siena's 400 free relay team of Amedio, Raines, Kirn, and Samko enjoyed fourth with a time of 3:31.51. Ivanovich was Siena's top finisher in the 1650 free, taking 10th in 18:18.24.
The Saints return to action on Saturday, Jan. 17, to host Stonehill at 1 p.m. at the Siena Swim Center.
