ALBANY, NY – Siena Basketball tips off its February slate when the Saints battle another first-place foe in reigning MAAC Regular Season Champion and preseason favorite Quinnipiac Sunday at 2 p.m. at MVP Arena.
As of Saturday afternoon, limited tickets remained to the first Siena home game of February. Members of the Siena coaching staff will be sporting suits and sneakers to show their support in part for the Saints annual
Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Game. Additionally, halftime is set to feature a special performance from more than 100 youngsters for the annual Siena Dance Clinic. Moreover, Sunday marks the Saints second Family Day of the season, featuring the opportunity for young fans to come down to the court postgame to shoot free throws and take pictures.
Siena (9-12, 4-6) opens the penultimate month of the season – and second half of its league schedule – seeking to snap a mini two-game slide while also securing the program's 350
th MAAC Regular Season victory. The Saints are set to begin February – which features five of seven games in the month within the friendly confines of MVP Arena – in a three-way tie with Fairfield and Rider for eighth place in the MAAC Standings. However, Siena is just one game back of fourth, albeit only two games clear of last place Canisius in a crowded, competitive table.
Meanwhile, reigning MAAC Regular Season Champion, preseason favorite, and current co-leader Quinnipiac (13-8, 9-1) arrives in the Capital Region having won six straight. The Bobcats are off to their second straight 9-1 league start under second-year head coach Tom Pecora. Sunday marks the only road game during a five-game stretch for Quinnipiac.
The Saints and Bobcats meet for the 25
th time in a series in which Siena holds a 13-11 all-time edge. However, Quinnipiac has won four straight, including a 72-53 triumph in the first regular season meeting between the squads on Jan. 10 in Hamden.
