Saints Complete Western New York Trip Saturday

Siena and Canisius Set to Wrap up Season Set

BUFFALO, NY - Siena Women's Basketball looks to push its season-long winning streak to six games Saturday afternoon when the Saints (15-10, 12-4 MAAC) meet the Canisius Golden Griffins (7-18, 6-9 MAAC). Tip-off from Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, NY, is set for 1 p.m.

Jay Moran and Richard Walsh have the call on ESPN+, while Joe Puccio and Steve Amedio will be courtside for the local broadcast on WVCR 88.3 FM. Tickets, international stream, live stats, and courtside X updates can be found by clicking on the corresponding links.

Siena has a chance to do something it has not done since the 2016-17 season - sweep its Western New York trip. The Saints completed 50% of the equation with their win over Niagara Thursday evening, defeating the Purple Eagles at Gallagher Center for the first time in eight seasons. Siena is 4-3 over its last seven games at Koessler Athletic Center, most recently suffering a 71-64 loss last season.

It may have been a different game, but Teresa Seppala supplied consistency Thursday night with the same numbers she put up in her previous outing against Sacred Heart: 17 points, eight rebounds, one block, and one steal. The national leader from the charity stripe cashed in on each of her eight tries in Thursday's win, increasing her season percentage to 94.7% - a mark that currently places her as the single-season program record holder. Over her last 11 games, the junior has gone for 15 or more points nine times, which includes back-to-back 23-point outings at Quinnipiac (Feb. 1) and Saint Peter's (Feb. 6).

Along with the play of upperclassmen Seppala and Anajah Brown, freshmen Aniya Hooker and Zyriah Price played pivotal roles in Siena's win Thursday night at Niagara. Hooker's game-winner with 0.3 capped off her poised play throughout the night, going 4-6 from the field to go with a pair of steals. As far as takeaways go, no Saint had more than Price - who tied a career-high of four which she previously set the last time Siena and Niagara met in December. The Alabama native produced double figures in points for the first time since facing Canisius on Dec. 21, and it was the second time in her last three games with seven boards.

Canisius enters Saturday 7-18 overall and 6-9 in MAAC play, good enough for 10th in the league standings. The Golden Griffins have dropped two consecutive games, most recently a 69-62 overtime contest to Marist Thursday evening. Canisius ranks 11th in the MAAC in both scoring offense (55.7 PPG) and scoring defense (66.2 Opp. PPG). Graduate student Jaela Johnson leads the team netting 11.6 per night, while sophomore Shariah Gailes is nearly averaging a double-double with nine points and 8.4 rebounds a game.

Through 86 games between the Saints and Golden Griffins, the Green and Gold lead the all-time series with a convincing 58-28 record. In the Saints' last three games played in Buffalo, however, Canisius has defended its home court well, having won two of the three contests. Since the turn of the century, Siena has posted an 11-12 mark in The Nickel City. The teams last met on Dec. 21, 2024, in Loudonville, which resulted in a 67-61 Saints win. There were 12 lead changes and nine ties in the back-and-forth affair, but led by 19 Seppala points, Siena was able to fend off a feisty Golden Griffin team.

Siena will have one week off before returning home to host Mount St. Mary's at 2 p.m. on Sat., Mar. 1.
