Siena (10-12, 5-6) seeks to build momentum by securing back-to-back home wins to tip off February after recording its biggest league victory to date on Sunday. The Saints erupted for a season-high 55 second half points to overcome a 13-point second half deficit to defeat reigning MAAC Regular Season Champion, preseason favorite, and conference co-leader Quinnipiac 84-75.
Â
Gavin Doty earned his second MAAC Rookie of the Week honor thereafter. The freshman sensation has continued to be a revelation over the past month-plus, and is averaging 13.2 points and team-highs of 7.6 rebounds and three double-doubles spanning his past 12 games to keep Siena in the hunt. The Saints enter a pivotal weekend tied for seventh with Manhattan in the league standings, albeit just a game back of both Iona and Mount St. Mary's who are deadlocked in fourth.
Â
Meanwhile Saint Peter's (7-11, 2-8) is in danger of missing out on a shot to repeat altogether barring a late-season turnaround, as the Peacocks enter play tied for last in the MAAC Standings. The top-10 finishers in the 13-team conference will advance to Atlantic City for the MAAC Championships next month. The defending champions have dropped three straight and four of five.
