Saints Bounce Broncs

Siena Tops Rider Behind Total Team Effort

LOUDONVILLE, NY - In near wire-to-wire fashion with 38:30 of time spent ahead, Siena Women's Basketball left little doubt in its 68-49 victory over the Rider Broncs Saturday afternoon from the UHY Center for the team's fourth win over its last five outings.

Ahniysha Jackson paced the Saints (12-10, 9-4 MAAC) with 16 points (6-11 FG, 1-5 3PT, 3-4 FT), followed by KB Hadley with 12 (5-11 FG, 1-1 3PT, 1-2 FT), and Teresa Seppala with 10 (4-8 FG, 1-3 3PT, 1-1 FT). Anajah Brown collected a team-high seven rebounds while Seppala had six - enough to eclipse 500 for her storied career. Brown also had a team-high four assists, while Jackson and Aniya Hooker had three each.

Winner Bartholomew led Rider (6-16, 4-9) with 12 points in just 19 minutes of work. Mariona Cos-Morales (11) and Gabby Turco (nine) combined for an additional 20.

Rider attacked the boards early in the first, aiding in four second chance points to remain steady with the Saints. However, as the quarter progressed turnovers and effective Siena shooting haunted the Broncs. The Saints forced eight Rider turnovers in the first which led to 14 points, and shot 9-18 from the field to lead 21-11 entering the second.

Siena continued suffocating the Broncs in the second, holding the visitors to just two points on 1-7 shooting through the first five minutes of the frame. In that span, the Saints extended their lead by eight with six of the team's 10 points through that mark coming from Hooker and Ana Conde three-pointers, and eventually led 35-19 at halftime. As the clock hit zero, Seppala grabbed the final rebound of the half - joining another milestone in the 500-rebound club.

Points were tough to come by in the third, with Siena out-scoring Rider 14-11. All but three of the Broncs' 15 shots came from outside the paint, but the Saints inside presence held their counterparts to just 20% shooting. Pace picked up in the fourth with Siena allowing its most in a quarter to Rider all afternoon with 19, but the Green and Gold matched with 19 of their own to keep the 19-point victory intact.

The Saints return to the floor on Thur., Feb. 13 when the team makes the short trip to take on I-87 rival Marist. Tip-off from McCann Arena is set for 7 p.m.
