Delaware Pulls Away From Saints Late

Blue Hens Plate Eight in Final Two Innings At Bat

Delaware plated eight runs over its final two innings at bat to pull away late and ultimately run-rule Siena Baseball 10-0 in eight innings in the series-opener in Newark.

What had been a pitchers' duel heading into the home half of the seventh turned on a dime late in the favor of Delaware (8-8).

Siena (2-12) pitching recorded back-to-back strikeouts to open the seventh, but the next five Blue Hens reached base safely to double the advantage to 4-0.

Each of the first seven Delaware hitters then got aboard to open the eighth, as the Blue Hens registered six runs on five hits in the frame to end things early.

Evan Bouldin went 3-3 with three runs scored to pace Delaware, which recorded seven of its 13 total hits over the final two frames.

Saints pitching had scattered just six hits and two runs over the first 6.2 innings before faltering late. Starter Alistair Morin struck out a season-high seven for a Siena pitching staff which saw seven hurlers combine to fan a season-best 14.

However, the Blue Hens pitching surged to the finish line as three pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout. Doubles by Jake Sparks in the first and Noah Brooks in the eighth accounted for two of the three Siena baserunners. Owen Pincince reached on a passed ball following a strikeout in the seventh.

The threat of inclement weather Sunday has adjusted the remainder of the series. The teams will now wrap things up with doubleheader action Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
