Eimont Dazzles in Siena’s Win Over Iona

Saints Hand Gaels First MAAC Loss of Season

Alissa Eimont went 5.1 no-hit innings in a masterful, two-hit outing to help lead Siena Softball to a 3-0 victory over the Iona Gaels from Donald E. Walsh Field at Rice Oval in New Rochelle, NY, Sunday afternoon.

After both sides went down in order in the first inning, the Saints manufactured the first run of the game in the second. Cali DeLawder took first on a hit by pitch to lead things off, and advanced to second on an Emma Petersen sacrifice bunt. That led to Ashley Giampolo lacing a double down the left field line to bring in DeLawder from second and hand Siena an early 1-0 lead.

Eimont continued to make quick work of the Gaels' bats, setting down the first eight batters until the first Iona hitter reached with two gone in the third by way of a hit by pitch. Despite giving up a walk later in the frame, Eimont got out of the inning with the 1-0 lead intact, and doing so with Iona still hitless.

Eimont worked through the fourth cleanly before issuing a walk to open up the fifth inning with Siena still holding a 1-0 lead. A sacrifice bunt and groundout to second quickly handed the Gaels two outs, but a hit batter and another walk loaded the bases with two away. Eimont would induce a lineout to Giampolo at second to escape the jam.

The no-hit bid came to an end with one out in the sixth on a Brooke Acker single to left field. However, no harm was done on the board as Eimont retired the next two batters.

Siena added insurance runs in the top of the seventh thanks to a Lauren Melton RBI triple, and an RBI base hit from McKenzie Swinson. Iona threatened in the bottom half with the tying run at the plate and two away, but Eimont ended the game on a foul out to right field.

Siena will return home to host Dartmouth on Tuesday, Apr. 1, at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
