A two-RBI single by freshman
Gianna DiMeglio, and a two-run home run off the bat of
Emma Petersen served up the difference in the deciding game between Siena Softball and the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers Saturday afternoon as the Saints (26-16-1, 10-5-1) took the rubber match from the Mount (9-33, 4-17) by a 4-2 score from Emmitsburg, MD.
DiMeglio put the Saints on the board in the top of the first, driving in a pair on a bases loaded single to make it a 2-0 game through one half inning.
The Mount had its first quality scoring chance of the day in the bottom of the fourth with runners on the corners and two away, but
Alissa Eimont induced an inning-ending fielder's choice to keep Siena up 2-0 going into the fifth.
There, Petersen doubled the Siena lead with a two-run home run - her second of the season - to create some breathing room for Eimont. However, the Mount got the two runs produced by Petersen back in the bottom half by way of a one-out RBI single, and a two-out RBI single. Eimont left the inning without further damage, and left the game thereafter.
Gracie Goewey entered in the circle for the six-out save, and once again kept her opposition in check. After giving up singles to the first two batters she faced, the sophomore set down the ensuing three in the sixth, as well as three of five in the seventh for her first save of the season.
The Saints return to action on Tue., Apr. 22 to host Fairfield for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
