Siena Baseball keeps winning series debuts. The clutch Saints rallied with five unanswered runs over the final two innings to improve to a perfect seven-for-seven in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series openers with a 6-2 triumph over Iona in New Rochelle, New York.
Joe D'Elia delivered the go-ahead, two-out RBI single to put Siena (15-24, 11-8) ahead for good at 3-2 in the eighth, after
Noah Brooks had knotted the score earlier in the frame. The Saints added three insurance runs in the ninth on an RBI double from
Jake Sparks and a two-run error.
Aidan Paradine once again paced the offense, continuing his torrid stretch with a 3-3 performance with three runs scored to raise his season average to a scintillating .373, while extending his on-base streak to 20 straight. D'Elia and Brooks each added a pair of hits apiece.
Meanwhile,
Alistair Morin and
Tyler Sausville combined for a strong performance on the mound. Morin held Iona (13-26, 7-12) hitless through the first five innings and finished with six solid frames while striking out five. Sausville added three scoreless out of the bullpen to secure his third win.
Due to the inclement weather forecast Saturday, the conclusion of the series was preemptively pushed to Sunday with doubleheader action set to start at noon.
