Super Senior Sweep

Saints Complete Sweep of Canisius on Senior Day

LOUDONVILLE, NY - It was a Senior Day to remember for the seven graduating members of Siena Softball as the Saints (29-18-1, 13-7-1) completed the three-game sweep of the visiting Canisius Golden Griffins (21-23, 11-9) with a 7-2 victory Sunday from Siena Softball Field.

One of the players honored - Alissa Eimont - secured her 14th win of the season after going the distance in the win. The redshirt-junior surrendered just two runs on six on six hits, while striking out five to one walk.

She gave up one run early in the day as Canisius got to her just three batters into the game for a 1-0 lead. However, Eimont set down the next three to keep damage to a minimum.

The veteran was picked up by her offense in the home half, however, as the Green and Gold hung three runs on the board. With two runners on and one away, Gracie Goewey legged out a two-RBI triple down to the right field corner to put the Saints ahead. She then touched home right after on an Ella Milante RBI single to make it a 3-1 game after one.

Megan Klein provided another run in the bottom of the second when a base hit scored McKenzie Swinson, before later scoring on a wild pitch to extend Siena's lead to 5-1 going into the third.

After hitting the first batter of the frame, Eimont got out of the third untouched, but the Golden Griffins would put up one run in the fourth to slightly close their deficit to 5-2. But once again, the Siena offense was there for its ace - scoring twice in the home half. Swinson came in with two outs on an error at first base, while Milante singled in another right after to make it 7-2.

Canisius had a prime chance to make a comeback in the top of the sixth when the first three batters reached. However, Eimont forced three consecutive fielder's choice outs - two of which at the plate - to leave the opposition empty. She went on to set down the side in order in the seventh to complete the afternoon.

The Saints are back in action Wed., Apr. 30, for their final home series of the season when the team hosts Le Moyne for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
