Saints Achieve Fourth-Straight 30-Win Season

Siena Splits Twin Bill with Le Moyne

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Another season, another 30 victories for head coach Casey Bump and her Siena Saints for the fourth time in as many seasons. Softball took on the visiting Le Moyne Dolphins early Wednesday evening for a pair of games in what were the final two to be played on Siena Softball Field for the 2025 season. The Saints took game 4-1 before the Dolphins came from behind to claim the second game 7-6 in nine innings.

Siena 4, Le Moyne 1

The difference was made in a four-run Siena fourth inning, which began with Emma Petersen starting the frame with a single. Later with pinch-runner Jazlyn Small-Yu at third, Carlie Venables poked a RBI single into right field for the first run of the contest. The next batter - Lauren Melton - ripped a two-RBI triple down the left field line to open Siena's lead to 3-0. McKenzie Swinson added the final run of the inning by way of a RBI single, handing pitcher Gracie Goewey a comfortable 4-0 edge.

Goewey was in full control for much of the game, facing the minimum over the first two innings before working out of a jam in the third with runners on second and third. The sophomore allowed just one baserunner between the fourth and sixth innings combined - which came on a walk in the fourth - to enter the seventh seeking a shutout.

However, a leadoff single by Cianna Benamati served as Le Moyne's second hit of the game, while the freshman stole second and advanced to third on an error with one out. She eventually came in for what was Goewey's lone blemish of the afternoon, but would go down as unearned by game's end.

Goewey completed the game with the one unearned run allowed on three hits and three walks, while striking out six over 108 pitches.

Le Moyne 7, Siena 6 (9)

Much like their counterpart in game one, the Dolphins used the fourth inning to break the ice in game two, doing so with three runs to claim an early lead. It was until the bottom of the fifth, but the Saints came back with an answer.

Lauren Melton kept the inning alive with a two-out single, and was rewarded by touching home on a McKenzie Swinson triple to deep center, which got past an outstretched diving fielder. Following a walk and hit batter, Emma Petersen registered a base hit up the middle to drive in two and even the game. Cali DeLawder later walked in the inning with the bases loaded for a 4-3 Siena lead.

Down to their final two outs and trailing 4-3, the Dolphins changed the game with one swing in the seventh. Shannon Gavigan doubled in a runner from first base on a hit to deep center, tying the game at 4-4 and subsequently sending it to extras. There, each team proceeded two runs in the eighth until Le Moyne chalked up one in the top of the ninth. Despite the runner starting on second base for Siena in the home half, the team couldn't push Gianna DiMeglio across to fall in game two

Megan Klein and Swinson each had two hits in the game, while Petersen was the lone Saint with multiple RBI.

The Saints hit the road for their final three games of the regular season at Saint Peter's, starting with a doubleheader Thursday. Game one of the twin bill is set for 2 p.m.
