LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Lacrosse is headed to the MAAC Semifinal Round for a sixth consecutive time.
The Saints (9-8) broke open a close game by scoring the first five goals of the second half and received backing from a trio of hat trick scorers and a steely defensive effort to roll to a 15-9 victory in a MAAC Second Round Playoff Game on Sunday at Hickey Field.
Koehler Nieman,
Olivia Nicholson and
Kelly Logue all scored three times and
Grace Dobrzynski added a goal and a team-high six assists and third-seeded Siena extended its win streak to seven games, its longest since it won a program-record eight straight games during the 2021 season.
The seventh-seeded Bobcats (10-8) entered with the league's top goal scoring offense with 230 marks, but were held scoreless in the third quarter and several minutes into the fourth when Siena was able to pad the lead to 11-5 on a score by Nieman from a feed off the stick of Dobrzynski.
After a goal by the Bobcats' Abby Wise at the 13:43 mark of the fourth quarter, Siena responded with three straight goals from Nieman on a woman-up advantage and two more from Nicholson on passes from Dobrzynski.
Freshman goalkeeper McAllister was up to the challenge of the Quinnipiac offense as she made a game-high 10 saves on a .526 save percentage.
Facing the MAAC Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year in Quinnipiac freshman Shannon Alden, the Saints pelted her to the tune of a 33-26 shots advantage including 21-19 for shots on target.
Since being inserted into the starting lineup, Salter has gone 7-0 with all starts coming in the month of April.
Quinnipiac lost opportunities on a failure to convert on most of their free-position shots, connecting on just 1-of-7.
In a highly anticipated draw circle matchup, it was nearly even as Siena held a 14-13 edge in the category with sophomore
Cassidy Bonura leading the Saints with eight on the day as she surpassed the 100 career draw controls mark.
Sophia Coan had seven draw controls to lead the Bobcats.
The Delmond sisters, Mia and EllaGrace, combined for five points a game removed from a combined 10 points in their MAAC First Round victory over Sacred Heart on Friday.
Next, Siena will travel to Emmitsburg, MD to face No. 2 Fairfield on Friday at 4 p.m. in the MAAC Semifinals.
