LOUDONVILLE, NY – Reserves
Gunnar Meland and
Louis Percival each registered three hits and knocked in three runs apiece as Siena Baseball triumphed in its non-conference finale with a 14-6 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson at Connors Park.
Â
The Siena (21-28) bats came to life late, exploding for 12 runs over their final three innings at bat to rally and complete the home-and-home sweep of FDU (13-37). The Saints, who prevailed in New Jersey in the first meeting in March, have now captured four of their past five matchups between the programs.
Â
The Knights scored five unanswered over the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-2 lead. But Siena took advantage of a pair of costly errors in the home half of the sixth to respond with three unearned runs and knot the score once more.
Â
The first seven Saints all reached base safely to open a decisive five-run seventh to take a commanding 10-5 lead.
Owen Pincince squeezed in the go-ahead run, while Meland added a two-run single.
Â
Siena then put it away with a four-run eighth, highlighted by a two-run triple from Percival. Meland and Percival combined to record six RBI on the afternoon after having entered play with just eight total for the season.
Â
Pincince added a pair of hits and scored three times, but it was his performance on the mound that stole the show. The junior closed things out with a 1-2-3 ninth punctuated by a pair of strikeouts in his first collegiate pitching performance.
Â
Edwin Sanchez also contributed a pair of hits and RBI apiece for the Saints which secured their 21
st victory, matching the 2018 squad for the program's most wins since 2016 (25).
Â
Diego Urreta hit a two-run home run to lead FDU which finishes winless in 23 non-conference contests this spring.
Â
The Saints continue their five games in six days week punctuated by a four-game homestand when they host I-87 rival Marist to wrap the regular season. The three-game series commences Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Connors Park.
