Siena Volleyball rallied back twice to take a set after dropping one, but ultimately fell at host Stony Brook 3-2 (14-25, 27-25, 14-25, 25-13, 10-15) on Saturday during day two of the Stony Brook Invitational on Long Island.
The combination of Ava Zamora (50 assists, 17 digs, nine kills) to Kali Moore (21 kills, 12 digs, three blocks) led the way for the Seawolves (2-0).
The pair connected for an assist-to-kill combo on five points in the deciding set.
Siena (0-2) had two key spurts in both the second and fourth sets.
The Saints engineered a 6-0 run including eight of nine points to reclaim a 19-16 lead in set two.
And, followed that up with another 6-0 run followed by a 7-0 spurt in set four to eventually force a fifth-and-deciding set.
The first rally included a kill apiece from
Mary Claire Deacy and
Ella Treasure as well three attacking errors by the Seawolves.
The second rally was charged by junior setter
Oliwia Majtyka, who reeled off three consecutive aces.
And, the third rally was fueled by
Doga Diraz's three kills and three blocks from Treasure.
Diraz led Siena with nine kills, five digs and three blocks,
Alara Doganyuz had her second consecutive double-double with 15 assists and 15 digs and freshman
Autumn Willmott contributed a team-best 18 digs along with seven assists and four aces.
Siena held an 11-10 slight advantage in team aces and committed five fewer attacking errors, however Stony Brook held a commanding 65-40 edge in team kills.
The invitational wraps up on Sunday morning for Siena against Central Connecticut State (0-2) at 10 a.m.
