Siena and New Hampshire combined for 31 shots, 10 corners, and several high-quality scoring opportunities, but the teams settled for a scoreless draw in Durham.
Both teams best chances came in the waning minutes. In the 79
th minute,
Olivia Covello forced a turnover and played in
Abby Daly on the doorstep, but her shot was turned aside by reserve keeper Sonja Zeepvat, who made three saves while playing the final half. With less than seven minutes remaining, New Hampshire (0-2-2) countered in traffic out front, but the Siena (2-1-3) back line cleared aside a shot off the line.
The Wildcats held an 18-13 advantage in shots, while the Saints harbored a 6-4 margin in corners to finish August earning points in five of six matches spanning the opening month of the season.
Cate Burns stopped seven shots to record her second straight clean sheet and third on the season. Outside of an early-season setback at defending National Champion and then top-ranked North Carolina, Burns has quarterbacked a back line which has bequeathed just two total goals spanning their other five matches.
Catherine Rogers paced the offense with three shots, while
Abby Daly and
Cate Flanagan added a pair apiece for Siena which played to a third consecutive tie for the first time in three years (Oct. 1-8, 2022).
The Saints will now have five full days to prepare for their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener when they host Sacred Heart next Saturday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. on Hickey Field.
