POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Natalie Harwood scored her first collegiate goal in the 78
th minute to rally Siena Women's Soccer to a 1-1 draw at MAAC rival Marist.
Following a first half where offense was at a premium as the teams combined for just seven shots, Siena (2-2-4, 0-1-1) controlled second half action once again. The Saints registered 11 shots in the final stanza, but it was a rare Marist (1-5-2, 0-0-2) counter which put the Foxes on the board first.
In the 64
th minute, Giavanna Meservy crossed to Gabby Tirado whose marker just crept over the goal line to give Marist the lead.
Chasing the tying goal late, Siena kept the pressure up and finally broke through to end a 420:22 scoring drought. A free kick from 35 yards out on the left by
Sarah Harnett deflected off a defender's head to the far post to Harwood who headed back across for the equalizer.
Overall, the Saints held a 14-8 advantage in shots and a 4-1 margin in corners to improve to an impressive 11-2-3 spanning the past 16 meetings overall against their I-87 rivals.
Cate Burns made one save for Siena which left Poughkeepsie with at least one point for the seventh time in the last eight trips (5-1-2).
Maddy Catalonotti made six of her eight saves in the second half for the Red Foxes.
The Saints return to non-conference action for the final time when they travel to Vermont for a Wednesday night kickoff at 6 p.m.
