Good Things Come in Threes

Saints Rally With Three Straight Scores to Record Third Consecutive Win

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Good things did indeed come in threes for Siena Women's Soccer Wednesday afternoon. Catherine Rogers scored for the third straight match while tallying three points, and the Saints notched three unanswered goals to push their winning streak to three straight with a 3-1 victory over Merrimack in a monsoon on Hickey Field.

Rogers netted the match-winner in the 71st minute before setting up Micaiah Croce for the exclamation point in the waning minutes for Siena (5-2-4, 2-1-1), which has erupted for eight goals during their now three-match win streak. The Saints had been held scoreless for 420 minutes during their immediately preceding five-match winless streak.

Freshman Olivia Covello scored her first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute, swinging momentum back in the favor of Siena right before the break. The Saints had battled through a persistent downpour and an early deficit after Merrimack (3-5-2, 2-2) struck first in the 17th minute off the head of Isabella Keogh.

Siena held a 15-10 advantage in shots – including a half dozen from Rogers – while each side attempted six corners apiece.

Cate Burns made five saves for the Saints.

Kaitlyn Brewi stopped six shots for the Warriors which remain winless away from North Andover (0-4-1).

Riding a wave of momentum, Siena returns to action for a showdown with reigning MAAC Champion Fairfield Saturday at 1 p.m. in Connecticut.
