After posting a 10-win improvement in Year One under
Gerry McNamara – which was tied for the ninth-best turnaround nationally – Siena (13-7, 6-3) can equal its win total from all last season with what would be a momentum-building victory to cap off a frenetic stretch. The Saints, who have gone 3-2 so far during the stretch with back-to-back wins, enter the evening in a three-way tie for third-place in the MAAC Standings with both Marist (12-6, 6-3) and Quinnipiac. Thursday marks the midway point of the league docket for the three perceived conference contenders.
The top-ranked MAAC team in the NET (138), the Red Foxes had their four-game win streak snapped by current conference co-leader Merrimack Monday afternoon in Poughkeepsie. Marist ranks third nationally in three-point field goal defense (.266), fourth in scoring defense (62.3), fifth in free throw percentage (.790), 11
th in field goal percentage defense (.389).
The I-87 rivals meet for the 97
th time in a series controlled by Siena to the tune of a dominant 63-33 advantage. However, the Red Foxes have won four straight, three of which have been by five points or less.
