Extra, Extra!

Saints Will Their Way to OT Win Over Canisius

LOUDONVILLE, NY — Siena Women's Basketball delivered when the game demanded extra time. The Saints outscored Canisius 15–11 in overtime to secure a 69–65 victory Saturday at the UHY Center, earning their first overtime win since 2019 and their first extra-period game since 2023. Siena's execution in the final five minutes and persistent defensive pressure, highlighted by 11 steals, proved decisive in a back-and-forth contest.

Francesca Schiro led Siena with 24 points and eight assists, recording her ninth 20-point game of the season while directing the offense down the stretch. Kaiya Rain Tucker posted a game-high 13 rebounds and three blocks, Caydence Hadley added 11 points with two steals and two blocks, and Alden Yergey knocked down three triples for nine points, including two crucial overtime baskets.

Siena controlled the opening quarter with defensive intensity, holding Canisius to eight points and building an early lead behind strong interior play and transition scoring. The Golden Griffins closed the gap before halftime, but Siena carried a narrow 26–24 advantage into the break.
The teams traded momentum throughout the second half, with neither side able to create separation. Schiro's late three-pointer gave Siena a fourth-quarter boost, but Canisius forced overtime on a last-second layup, tying the game at 54.

In overtime, Siena took command. Yergey sparked the Saints with a go-ahead three, and Siena followed with poised shot-making, disciplined defense, and clutch free throws. Schiro sealed the win at the line, while Jamariah Turner added a key fast-break layup as Siena closed the game with authority.

Siena improves to 9–12 overall and 7–5 in MAAC play. The Saints return to action Thursday, Feb. 5, at Saint Peter's, with tipoff set for 6 p.m. in Jersey City.
