Saints Return Home to Host Canisius Wednesday

Siena looks to extend its unbeaten streak and continue its strong home form against the Golden Griffins

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Men's Soccer returns to Hickey Field for the first time in nearly two weeks when it hosts Canisius on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m. The Saints enter the matchup riding a three-match unbeaten streak and will look to remain undefeated at home this season while continuing their climb in the Metro standings.

Siena (2-5-4, 0-1-3 Metro) last took the pitch on Oct. 3, playing to a 3-3 draw against Saint Peter's. The Saints have posted a 1-0-3 record through their first four home matches this season and will look to carry that success into Wednesday's conference matchup. With more than half of their Metro schedule remaining, the Saints currently sit 10th in the standings with three points, with the top six teams qualifying for the Metro Conference Championships.

Senior forward Lucas Almeida continues to pace the Saints offensively, entering Wednesday as the Metro leader with 18 points and tied for the conference lead with eight goals. His averages of 0.73 goals and 1.64 points per match rank among the top 20 nationally in their respective categories. Almeida also sits one point shy of cracking Siena's all-time top 10 in career points, currently holding 43.

Senior goalkeeper Bennet Glinder is also approaching a significant career milestone. With 17 career shutouts, Glinder is tied for Siena's all-time program record and can claim sole possession of the mark with another clean sheet on Wednesday. The senior most recently recorded five saves in the draw against Saint Peter's on Oct. 3.

Canisius (1-9-1, 0-4-1 Metro) comes to Loudonville looking to snap a six-match winless streak. The Golden Griffins' lone victory came in a 6-0 decision over Division III St. John Fisher on Sept. 12, and they have since gone 0-5-1. Canisius is also 0-4 on the road this season and sits tied for last in the Metro standings with one point.

The Golden Griffins average 1.1 goals per match, ranking ninth in the conference, and are led by Romero Nicolazzo's five goals, which are tied for fifth in the Metro. Canisius has turned to Adam Schantz in goal over its last three matches, with the goalkeeper posting a 0-2-1 record, a 3.00 goals-against average and a .400 save percentage. Preston Harold started the team's first eight contests and owns a 1-7 record with a 2.38 goals-against average and a .620 save percentage.

Wednesday marks the 39th all-time meeting between Siena and Canisius, with the Saints holding a 22-11-5 advantage in the series. Siena has not lost to the Golden Griffins since Oct. 16, 2013, going 8-0-4 in the 12 meetings since. The Saints have also not lost at home to Canisius since Oct. 21, 2006, compiling an 8-0-2 mark over that span.

Siena claimed last season's meeting by a 4-0 margin in Buffalo, with Almeida recording four assists to tie the program's single-match record. The Saints will look to continue that series success Wednesday while earning valuable points in the Metro race.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Hickey Field. The match will stream live on ESPN+, with Ryan Zimmerman and Joe Lemery on the call and Ro Yeon Lee reporting from the sideline. Live stats, an international stream, and press box updates on X will also be available.
