Almeida Scores Twice as Saints Battle Saint Peter’s to 3-3 Draw

Siena outshot Saint Peter’s 14-5 in the second half and generated a flurry of late chances to earn its third conference draw of the season

LOUDONVILLE, NY — Siena Men's Soccer rallied from a pair of second-half deficits to earn a 3-3 draw against Saint Peter's Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field. The Saints outshot the Peacocks 14-5 in the second half and continued to pressure until the final whistle.

Siena moved to 2-5-4 overall and 0-1-3 in conference play, while Saint Peter's moved to 3-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in conference action.

Lucas Almeida led the Saints with two goals and seven shots, putting six attempts on frame. Emmy Horja added the late equalizer on his lone shot on goal, while Ivan Struk contributed an assist and three shots. Bennet Glinder made five saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal.

Saint Peter's opened the scoring in the 26th minute, but Siena answered with a pair of goals from Almeida to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The Saints came out attacking from the opening whistle, with Almeida forcing a save just 44 seconds into the match before Ben Biton tested Saint Peter's goalkeeper Sebastian Heredia-Randen 34 seconds later. Almeida created another chance in the sixth minute, while Ingvar Kolbjornsen, Struk and Benjamin Fogarty also recorded first-half attempts.

After McErlain's opening goal in the 25th minute, Siena responded just under six minutes later. Kolbjornsen and Lee Mara combined to set up Almeida, who finished at 31:26 to level the match.

Almeida struck again less than four minutes later, this time finding the back of the net off an assist from Struk at 35:08 to put the Saints ahead. Glinder made three saves before halftime to preserve Siena's 2-1 advantage.

Saint Peter's pulled even early in the second half when Marcos De Elias scored at 47:20 following a Glinder save on a shot from Harry Edwards.

The Peacocks then regained the lead in the 61st minute when McErlain converted a penalty kick, putting Siena in a 3-2 hole.

The Saints responded with sustained pressure. Siena earned a corner less than a minute later and continued to generate opportunities, with Fogarty and Struk both recording shots. Struk's attempt at 69:14 struck the top of the woodwork before the Saints earned additional corners in the 71st and 74th minutes.

Siena's pressure finally paid off in the 82nd minute. Tito Somuyiwa found Horja, who finished at 81:42 to bring the Saints level at 3-3.

The Saints continued to push for the winner in the closing minutes, with Almeida, Oscar Dean, Horja, Antonio Vicente and Somuyiwa all recording chances. Almeida forced a save before having a penalty-kick attempt turned away, while Struk and Fogarty also tested Heredia-Randen late.

Siena earned two more corners in the final minute, but Saint Peter's held on to secure the 3-3 draw.
