HAMDEN, CT - The run for the Siena Men's Tennis doubles team of
Mars Argun and
Mateja Stefanovic finally came to a halt in the championship of the Metro Masters Tournament Quinnipiac on Sunday.
The sophomores dropped its finals match against the team of Finn Burridge and Elias Hoxha of Quinnipiac 6-2.
Argun, a native of Istanbul, Turkey, and Stefanovic, a native of Kragujevac, Serbia, defeated Ethan Hirons and Tom Bevan of Marist 7-6 (7-2) in a quarterfinal and then topped the team of Kacper Krolikowksi and Calum Jessett of Fairfield 7-6 (7-4) in the semifinal on day two Saturday.
On Friday in the round of 16, Argun and Stefanovic topped Leo Hhu and Taylor Yarnell of Iona 6-4.
"I'm really proud of how the team performed this weekend," said first-year Siena head tennis coach Justin Roe.
"I'm even more proud of how Mars and Mateja grew up on the doubles court. They used their big serves to their advantage and really did a good job returning and provided pressure on their opponents. With them being sophomores, their future on the doubles court is a bright one. We proved this weekend that we're a team that people can't take lightly."
Siena will be back on the courts in the ITA Regionals beginning this Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Beren Tennis Center in Harvard.
