LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Women's Soccer is off to the program's best 12-match start in 16 years.
Maya Costa and
Catherine Rogers each scored first half goals as the Saints dispatched Canisius 2-0 at Hickey Field.
Costa and Rogers each scored midway through the first half for Siena (8-3-1, 4-2) which has secured its best 12-match start to a season since opening the 2010 MAAC Championship campaign with 12 straight victories.
Costa initiated the scoring in the 20
th minute, finishing a cross from Metro Conference Player of the Week
Anna Swyers. Rogers corralled a lob from
Briana Neary in the 33
rd minute which she chipped over the onrushing keeper for her team-leading seventh goal to cap the victory in the Saints milestone 800
th all-time match.
Back on home turf for the first time in 18 days, Siena held an 11-7 advantage in shots and a 3-2 margin in corners. The Saints are now unbeaten in 19 of their last 22 matches (14-3-5) on Hickey Field.
Cate Burns made three saves to record her eighth shutout for Siena which ran its unbeaten streak to 10 straight (6-0-4) against Canisius overall (5-6, 2-4), and nine in a row (6-0-3) in Loudonville.
Alexa Turmel stopped one shot for the Golden Griffins.
The Saints will now look to secure their third separate three-match win streak this season when they take on Saint Peter's Saturday at noon in Jersey City, New Jersey.
