Saints Continue Challenging Stretch Run With Pivotal Matchup

ALBANY, NY – The teams predicted to finish first and second according to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll meet for the only time during regular season action when Siena Basketball hosts preseason favorite Quinnipiac Friday night at 7 p.m. at MVP Arena.

Siena (17-8, 10-4) returns to the Capital Region to continue a challenging stretch run. The Saints are in the midst of a pivotal six-game gauntlet against the other current top-six teams in the MAAC Standings.

Siena enters the weekend in third place in the MAAC – a game back of second-place Saint Peter's and two behind current frontrunner Merrimack – with six regular season contests remaining. The Saints face both of those teams next weekend, after playing Quinnipiac and Marist – who are both tied for fourth just a half-game back of Siena – this weekend.

The defending MAAC Regular Season Champion, Quinnipiac (17-9, 10-5) was projected to repeat while securing eight first-place votes in the preseason polling. The Saints received three first-place votes in being picked second. Led by reigning MAAC Player of the Year Amarri Monroe, the Bobcats have won three straight. Quinnipiac leads the MAAC averaging 76.6 points per game.

Siena and Quinnipiac meet for the only time this regular season, and first time in 376 days. The Saints have already played all 11 other MAAC opponents at least once, including three teams twice. Siena holds a 14-11 edge in the all-time series, and snapped a four-game losing streak against the Bobcats with a victory in the most recent matchup last February.

Robert Lee, Kelly O'Donnell, and Steve Jones have the call of the game on ESPN+, which can be viewed by clicking the corresponding link. The "Voice of the Saints" Emmanuel Berbari and former Saint Andy Grazulis '92 will have the radio call of the game locally in the Capital Region on JAMZ 96.3 FM, with pregame coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m.
